A Grave Mistake

Man will do anything 

To give

His life 

Meaning

And

Purpose 

Anything 

Like 

Waking 

At four o'clock

In the morning 

And going about

Doing things 

Like making phone calls 

Across time zones

Working out 

Meeting people

Debating

Pontificating

About nothing

Incessantly moving

Spinning wheels

Doing 

Everything 

And

Nothing 

At the same time 

Running all over

Yet

Going nowhere

But in circles

This is a grave mistake 

That man makes 

Most all of his life

Thinking that it is him who makes 

Meaning out of a life

That is not even his

Nor does he ever give

The chance to live

Idyllic as

New Zealand seems

Beaches

Seascapes

Rolling green

As far as the eye can see

Yet

Behind the scenes

The average adolescent teen

Deals with issues

Far greater

And more urgent

Than most adults

Could ever conceive

The River Never Rushes

There is no reason for rushing ever

Just as the river never does

It just runs

Despite what they say

Sometimes slow and languid through long smooth stretches

Others fast and choppy as a riffle or rapid

But the river never rushes

And the water is never in a hurry to get somewhere

That it is not already

On Becoming Serious

You

My dear

Are nowhere near

Serious

Yet

And not in the way you might think

Serious with a scowl or wrinkled brow

No

Serious in the way

That children play

Engaged in mobiles and legos

Lost

In lands of their own making

Other worlds

Fake

Yet

All too real

In the eyes and mind of a child

Yes

Serious

Absolutely so

If there is one thing

I've come to know

It’s to relinquish control

As all rivers

And roads

Lead to nowhere

That to others appears as

“Hard Work”

But to you

Feels like

Care free

Learning all sorts of things

And nothing at all

Instead

Demonstrate

To which degree

You are capable of

Grinding

Hustling

Working

Learning

Knowing all the while

That the long arduous hours

Perceived by others

Were never that at all

But just

Care free play

Ebb and Flow

One day

I will board a great boat

And out to sea

She and I will go

And as captain and maiden

We will throw

Our selves into the waves

Unveiling our sails

Letting everything we once were on land

Disperse into the wind

And then

When we have both dropped it all

Into the ocean below

Only then will we know

What it feels like to ebb and flow

On Craft

Forget your six pack abs

And all the diet fads

Because

Where you are headed

You will forget to eat and exercise

Trust me on this

The craft will need

All of your energy and feed

The living daylights out of you

I think it is sad

That you have had

To trick your life into

Meaning something

Other than what it is

Filling it with fluff

Stuff

That was never

Even supposed to exist

In the human conscious

You are more than enough

Why is it that you cannot just go about

Your business

As is?

Just as the birds sing

For no apparent reason

Each song having no meaning at all
